This 100% raffia hat is hand made on the Island of Madagascar where the raffia palm tree grows. The hat has a double layer of raffia which is finely woven to block the sunlight. The brim is flexible, enabling it to take many different shapes. Because of its flexible nature, the hat can be packed into a suitcase for travel without damage from bending. The brim is a wide 7 inches. Once you purchase we will contact you to ask you to measure around your head with a soft tape measure or a string. We will then select a hat that will fit you properly.

  • Cleaning: Many spots and stains can be removed with a hand held gum eraser. You can spot clean your hat with a brush or damp rag. If needed you can use a mild liquid soap.

  • Strings and Stray Palm: Over time you may see threads or pieces of palm sticking up on your hat. Feel free to cut those off. Our hats are lock stitched so they won’t unravel like other hats.

This adorable hat is a SM/MED size and fits 22″ or hat size 7. It has an approximate 3-1/2″ brim. Hand-sewn black/white/khaki grosgrain ribbon. It is hand woven palm with a cotton foam Stretch sweatband and UPF 50+. Tula Hats were tested at the Textiles Laboratory at California Polytechnic State University and came back with glowing reviews. Our hats were tested specifically with the intention of finding out their UV transmittance rate. They scored UPF 50+ (a zero UV transmittance score!). Each piece is hand-woven and unique. Variations in color or weave are natural occurences. The color of the palm will vary. The size of the brim can also vary slightly.
